Maddox Transformers
Maddox sells, rents, repairs, and buys transformers. They work with small one-man operators, all the way up to the largest industrial projects in the United States
The project
When we started working with Maddox, they wanted to add e-commerce into their business. They usually had their sales come from reps selling products and services from leads generated by a Webflow website, but wanted an easier way to sell, specially to smaller operators.
The approach
There a few considerations one must be mindful of when deciding a platform to use for their business. At a high level, we recommend Webflow for services and Shopify for Ecommerce. There are a few instances where webflow can be used for ecom, like when selling digital files or subscriptions to a service but in the case of Maddox, there were features that required a further level of customization that only Shopify could provide. The solution was then to keep their marketing site on Webflow and create a subdomain for the ecommerce.
When creating subdomain stores, it is important to keep the user experience consistent. Here you can see how navigation works in the service and ecommerce portion of the site.
The feature that made us choose Shopify over Webflow for ecommerce was the ability to create and use variants. We also included 2 prices (new and used) for each variant, which was a challenge of its own.
The results
With the new site, Maddox was able to direct some of the sales over to the commerce portion of the site. Now Colored Byte works with them in an ongoing basis doing Webflow and Shopify support and helping them create new landing pages and SEO tools in Webflow.
